Daylight Savings Time

I wanted to spend a little bit of time talking bout Daylight Savings time. For anyone wanting to research the topic, you will find there to be a lot of information out there. Basically, the idea was first thought of by Benjamin Franklin. But it wasn’t until World War I that it was used in the United States as an effort to conserve energy. After the war, it was unpopular, and the law enacting it was repealed. It came back during World War II, and was actually used year round during the war. After that, states could decide what they wanted to do. Congress has since passed legislation (on several occasions), which brings us to why everyone was so tired on this Monday morning! A little boring right? Well, I did find something interesting:

“While twins born at 11:55 p.m. and 12:05 a.m. may have different birthdays, Daylight Saving Time can change birth order -- on paper, anyway. During the time change in the fall, one baby could be born at 1:55 a.m. and the sibling born ten minutes later, at 1:05 a.m. In the spring, there is a gap when no babies are born at all: from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.”

Bet you never thought of that!
