Remembering a Friend

It’s been one year today since we lost a dear friend. What I remember most about her was her joyful attitude. She was always smiling and laughing. We will never forget that laugh! Amy and I knew her from years ago, back to high school in fact. We all became a little closer during the band days. We could always count on her to help add excitement to the crowd. She made the tough times easier.

Towards the end of her life, she really shined! Her light burned brighter than anyone I have ever known. One of the very last times I spoke to her she made me laugh. She lived a good life. Now she is living a better one.

Saying goodbye
Was not easy to do
Even on this day
We shed a tear to two

You were kind and thoughtful
Honest and just,
Faithful and good
A friend we could trust

Life will go on
I’m sure you’d want it to
But we just wanted to say,
Janice, we’ll never forget you.

Just letting you know, Janice we're still thinking about you…

Another Sunday Post

This was probably one of the best weekends we have had in a long time. On Friday night, Dad stopped by and spent some time with the kids. Saturday morning Amy went to rummage sales. This was her first chance to do that this year. She really enjoys is. I (Ryan) helped hang orange ribbons around town in support of the new school. Also on Saturday, Haley came over to watch the kids while Amy and I spent some time together cleaning the car. Saturday evening, Paige came over to have me look over her resume. I cooked hamburgers on the grill and we all ate together. Sunday morning we all went to church, and then out to eat with Nena and Gary. We went to a wonderful little place in Fairfield called Buffalo Country. I had the Buffalo, and it was okay. Sunday afternoon, we went out to look at Dad’s pontoon boat, and then came back here to enjoy time together and the wonderful weather!

Random Thoughts and Pieces of Thoughts:

There is a lot on my mind these days. I’m worried about the referendum. Many of the people I talk to are very optimistic, but I’m rather concerned.

There is potentially something big that I can’t talk about right now.

There is just something really strange with too many of my relationships with old friends.

We have great neighbors, I just wish I could become closer to them.

Sunday Afternoon

I thought I would take a moment and mention some of the things that have been going on in our lives recently. Yesterday I (Ryan) helped put up orange ribbon across the town as a campaign to get out the “Yes” vote for the upcoming April 17th bond referendum for a new high school. We really need a new school. During the morning, I got to catch up with a friend from the band days.

Today, Cassidy and I played outside for a while. It was colder than had wished. I keep thinking Spring is here, but we are still getting cold weather. Maybe this is the last of it.

The school year is starting to wind down, and the end of the year is in site. I got a call from an old friend the other day who is going to apply at the high school. I am trying to decide if it would help her if I wrote a letter for her. The last two people I wrote letters of recommendation for didn’t get interviews. It would be great working with her, and I think she would do a good job.

Amy and the kids stayed at home from church today. It was a little lonely going by myself. Callie was being difficult, so we didn’t think the long drive would be possible. The sermon was good. The music was good. Orchardville is a great church. For whatever reason though, I can’t seem to find my niche there.

Hmmm, what else? Just looking forward to warmer weather!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He converted from paganism to Christianity after being held as a slave. After escaping from slavery, he went on to study in the monastery, and eventually made his way back to Ireland to win souls. He was arrested and persecuted several times. He established several monasteries and schools.

A lot of tales surround St. Patrick. For example, it is said that drove out all the snakes from Ireland. It is also said that he used the shamrock (three-leaf clover) as an illustration of the Trinity.

Today St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in many places throughout the world! So, Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The Ides of March

Perhaps you have heard the phrase, “Beware of the Ides of March.” The phrase comes from the Shakespearean play, Julius Caesar. In the play, the soothsayer gave the warning, which foretold of the assignation of the emperor. This occurred March 15, 44 B.C. The phrase meant the “middle” of the month, but has come to be known as March 15. So, beware!

Daylight Savings Time

I wanted to spend a little bit of time talking bout Daylight Savings time. For anyone wanting to research the topic, you will find there to be a lot of information out there. Basically, the idea was first thought of by Benjamin Franklin. But it wasn’t until World War I that it was used in the United States as an effort to conserve energy. After the war, it was unpopular, and the law enacting it was repealed. It came back during World War II, and was actually used year round during the war. After that, states could decide what they wanted to do. Congress has since passed legislation (on several occasions), which brings us to why everyone was so tired on this Monday morning! A little boring right? Well, I did find something interesting:

“While twins born at 11:55 p.m. and 12:05 a.m. may have different birthdays, Daylight Saving Time can change birth order -- on paper, anyway. During the time change in the fall, one baby could be born at 1:55 a.m. and the sibling born ten minutes later, at 1:05 a.m. In the spring, there is a gap when no babies are born at all: from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.”

Bet you never thought of that!

Still here

Just letting eveyone know we are still here. Things have been really busy the last several days, and we have not had a lot of time to post. One thing I have been working on is the yes vote for the new high school. If you have not yet went to the site, take a look at:

Celebrating One Year With Callie!

It’s really hard to believe that another year has gone by so quickly. This past year has been great to watch Callie grow up. She is starting to show a lot of personality now. It won’t be long until we will find ourselves watching the baby disappear, and the little girl take center stage. Although it has to happen, it is a sad to see it take place. Just today, Callie came over and got a chip from me, and said, “Thank you.” She is such a doll! She can say “Momma,” “Dadda,” “Sis,” “Juice,” and apparently “Thank you!” She just started walking not that long ago. Wow, how times flies!

Happy Birthday Callie!

Oh my! How time flies. I can hardly believe that our baby Callie is 1 year old today. It seems like only yesterday that she was just a tiny baby. She is growing up before our eyes. We are very blessed to have her. She is a special little girl.
