Cute Pics

Just thought I would post a couple of cute pics of the kids. Tonight was a typical evening. I went to tutor after school, then came home. We played outside with the kids for a while and then Amy went to the YMCA to work out with her friend Heather. Later in the evening, the kids went to bed and Amy and I watched 24.

Not much else to report these days. Sometimes no news is good news.

Fun at the Circus

The girls had a blast at the circus while it was in town. We went with Grandma JoAnn and Grandma Shannon. In addition to seeing the show, Cassidy rode the ponies two times and she also rode a camel for the first time. We came home with Dora balloons and many pictures.

Still Here

I'm still here. Things have just been really really busy here lately. It becomes difficult to post when there is so much going on. I have a minute here before we leave for church, so I thought I would post a little something.

Life is going along pretty smoothly here. Yesterday Cassidy went to a birthday party. She really had a good time. Also, yesterday Jeannie came home. She had been sick in the hospital. God still answers prayer. We don't always understand why things happen. Perhaps we will understand it better "by and by" as the song says. We pray that she has a quick recovery.

Amy has been enjoying working out with her friend Heather. I've just been mowing grass. That's what's going on in our life this week. :)

Defeated

It was a sad day for the kids at Mt. Vernon High School yesterday. The bond referendum that would have paved the way for a new high school was defeated 2980 to 4668. That means it was roughly 60% against, and 40% in favor. Some of you may recall that a few years ago a similiar proposal failed by 80% to 20%.

I would like to think that it may mean that eventually we will get a new school. However, having worked on both campaigns, I can't imagine what we could have done differently that would have made the kind of difference we would have needed. Here is the saddest part of all. At the place where I was watching the election results come in, someone said the voter turnout was about 13%. When you consider how many people aren't even registered to vote, that is just unbelievable. Such a tiny number of people are making such huge decisions. I simply can't understand the apathy that engulfs this town.

So now what? Well, if the state funds the construction grant anytime soon, we will have missed our chance. 30 million dollars will go down the road to the next community. I doubt the grant will come back anytime soon. If the state waits, we could still have another chance for a bond referendum. I can't see the same goup wanting to go through this again though.

Where will that leave the school? Who knows. It will probably take a kid getting hurt before something changes. The school is not safe, and it is an unpleasant atmosphere. Something needs to be done. It is now time for the opposition to step up and provide their answers to the problem.

Almost Done

I spent this weekend working diligently for the new high school. Saturday I spent several hours working the phone bank trying to identify yes votes. Sunday morning I passed out door hangers, and then went to the high school. We gave tours for the people who wanted to see the buildings. It was an exhausting time. I had several people drilling me with questions I could not answer (mostly because they were irrelevant). It will really be interesting to see what happens on Tuesday.

The Coloring of the Eggs

We made it through the coloring of the eggs again. Last year Cassidy and I did this in the garage. This year it was way too cold to go outside, so we had to set everything up on the kitchen table. Add to that, this year Callie got to partake in this festivity. Thankfully, we didn’t have anything spilled. The kids loved it! The next morning, we hid the eggs, and the kids hunted them. This is quickly becoming a yearly tradition for the Robinson family!

Trip to the Zoo

Today we took a trip to the St. Louis Zoo. We tried to get there early so to avoid having to pay to park. We ended up parking for free, but had to walk quite a distance. The kids really enjoyed looking at all the animals. We took Cassidy and Callie for a ride on the carousel. We all had a good time. Unfortantely, we got caught in the thunderstorm, which cut our trip a little short. All in all, it was a pretty good day. Here are some pictures we took at the zoo.

Cassidy's New Bike

We decided that it was time for Cassidy to upgrade from her tricycle to a bicycle. We bought her one on Sunday. Everytime we go for a walk, she asks to ride her new bike. She loves it.
